Exodus 17:2

Life Application Study Bible ® Devotion:

The people complained about their problems instead of praying. Some problems can be solved by careful thought or by rearranging our priorities. Some can be solved by discussion and good counsel. But some problems can be solved only by prayer. We should make a determined effort to pray when we feel like complaining because complaining only raises our level of stress. Prayer quiets our thoughts and emotions, and prepares us to listen.

Colossians 2:8

“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ”

Paul writes against any philosophy of life based only on human ideas and experiences. Paul himself was a gifted philosopher, so he is not condemning philosophy. He is condemning teaching that credits humanity, not Christ, with being the answer to life’s problems. That approach becomes a false religion. There are many man-made approaches to life’s problems that totally disregard God. To resist heresy you must use your mind, keep your eyes on Christ, and study God’s Word.

Oprah Winfrey Confesses Christ During NYC ‘Lifeclass’ Tour?

Oprah Winfrey, appearing in New York City during the Monday broadcast of her “Lifeclass,” professed to being a Christian twice during her introduction, which one publication took as evidence of her confession in Christ.

Beyond Kony 2012, child soldiers are used in most civil wars

Kony 2012 campaign calls for plastering posters everywhere tonight. But the use of child soldiers goes far beyond warlord Kony and his LRA. It is the norm in most civil wars. Governments, too, use children to fight. One way to stop it: Deny military aid to these governments.

Tapping on heaven’s door: Seminarian keeps a foot in the dance world by Cindy Wooden

David Rider still does the occasional barrel roll, but now he usually does it wearing a Roman collar.

God, Sex, Christopher West, How far can you go?

We have forgotten who we are!

Christian (you!) recognise your DIGNITY! The moral life is about recognising our greatness; recognising WHO WE REALLY ARE as men and women, waking up from that amnesia … we’re all hungry for love and the moral life is about not settling for counterfeit love! where do we go to feed that hunger? The culture has a fast food menu, the culture says, come bring your hunger here and we’ll give you  all this greasy fast food, immediate pleasure, immediate gratification, fine, but what happens when we eat that fast food? it clogs our arteries, we get sick. The truth of the Church is confirmed in the wounds of the culture that rejects it (ouch ouch ouch!!).

What are the wounds?

What is at stake is the truth of love, our humanity, the core of the Gospel, the call to love in the image and likeness of God: LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU

The Torah: A beginner’s guide

The rabbis are quite intrigued with why God chose to appear to Moses in a desert bush.
To teach you that no place is devoid of God’s presence, not even a thorn bush.

The Torah: A beginner’s guide

7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.
8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

The Torah: A beginner’s guide

1 Blessed is the man who has not followed the counsel of the impious, and has not remained in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the chair of pestilence.
2 But his will is with the law of the Lord, and he will meditate on his law, day and night.
3 And he will be like a tree that has been planted beside running waters, which will provide its fruit in its time, and its leaf will not fall away, and all things whatsoever that he does will prosper.
