The country cures

CONISHEAD Priory is now a place of quiet contemplation but for many years offered care for soldiers and coal miners.

I spent 10 days meditating in search of enlightenment

Was very amusing reading this account of a course I attended 4 weeks ago…. And always baffles me how some good souls are incapable or unwilling to follow rules or completely misunderstand reason for doing certain activities.

I never thought I’d look forward to brushing my teeth.

After a few minutes getting microphone to work …………

Ram Dass – The ego in its labeling of love, considers love as part of the emotions. Love is not part of the emotions, love is soul talk because we are each souls and then we are one. These are 2 different levels of consciousness. When the individual’s soul meets another individual’s soul there is a recognition that it is a soul. The ego is rooted in negative stuff and the soul is rooted in love. So that when you are in your ego you are anxious and you are separate from everybody else. When the soul is separate from another soul but they have a recognition of the shared consciousness. When you are perceiving from your soul other people look like souls. If for eg you go into a store there are different people playing different roles, the customer and the clerk. But I go into that store and I see these are souls and they are playing these roles only on this incarnation and they only chose these roles because of their unique karma.

Eckhart – I never decided to use the word soul or God, it didn’t come up.

Eckhart discussing LOVE.

Awakening is to become free of the compulsion to judge continuously, to label what is around you and whoever you are around with. The conceptualised reality – when that subsides – when presence arises – then you sense something in whatever you perceive that is a kind of recognition – a human being or any other being e.g. a tree, animal, you recognise something in the other that before you couldn’t – before the other was always the other!

The EGO emphasises the other to others! Mistaking every viewpoint for the truth. There can be no love there.

Christ said “Love your neighbour as yourself” it means your neighbour is yourself. The formless dimension. What you are preceiving is the mental form of that person. If you go beyond form – through your own presence you sense the person’s presence.

When a dog dies for eg all you are left with is the fur, bones etc the essence is no longer there. When you look at the live dog, you can sense its’ beingness – easier with animals than with humans – you sense your own beingness – perceiving from the heart, you sense the beingness of the other. This is the recognition of oneness, this is love. Sensing that what you share is consciousness. you love consciousness, what you love in the other is something you cannot perceive, beyond the senses. So to perceive through that space of love is to be free from the compulsion of conceptualisation. Look through the stillness.

Be the space of stillness. Then you perceive lovingly. There is no other. That is how stillness and love is related. Stillness is the essence of now and where love arises. Our destiny is to live in that way, our normal state of consciousness. The world will be transformed if human beings live in this way. The truth of who you are.

Kadampa Buddhism Summer Festival 2011, Ulverston, UK

Festival Experience – New Kadampa Tradition

Every year NKT-IKBU organises a world wide programme of special courses on Buddhism and meditation that explain how to apply Buddha’s teachings (Dharma) to modern living. The programme includes International Festivals, National Festivals and Dharma Celebrations.

These Festivals and Dharma Celebrations provide a precious opportunity to study and practise the special presentation of modern Buddhism taught by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of NKT.

The events vary in length from two days to two weeks, but whatever their duration they all offer a vacation with a difference — a chance to break free from the hectic routines of daily life and focus on the things that really matter. You will come away not only refreshed and relaxed but also spiritually re-energised.
